Shockingly, Slippery Rock renting has a 2% decrease compared to last year, with an average rent costing $1,323 according to RentCafé.com. The average apartment rent over the prior 6 months in Slippery Rock has decreased by $87 (-10.9%). In comparison to how many beds are offered versus how much the cost would be, shown below is the graph showing the increase/decrease of said prices. On average, a one-bedroom apartment will rent for $562 a month which is a decrease from the previous year.

What is the smart move for renting as a college student?

Private owned apartments and houses seem to be the best move for college students and parents of college students. As recently as 2018 the Ivy, which is sponsored off-campus housing through the University, has increased the renting cost for renters going from $615 skyrocketing to nearly $855 for a 4 bedroom apartment.

As for on-campus living, there are even MORE choices. For example; Traditional Housing($1,744 per semester), Residential Suites($2,547 per semester), and even the ROCK Apartments($2,785 per semester) each having different costs and many different living choices. All the numbers taken are from the least expensive options. These numbers I found on the Slippery Rock University Housing and Fee page.

Although, the standard is having more roommates equals lower rent so if a student is looking to have fewer roommates he or she has to be willing to pay the cost of solitary.

Here is an interview with my own land-lord Kristie Schumacher:

Schumacher also informed me of the many horror stories that go along with renting from private owners. From previous renters, people have come to Schumacher hoping to find a happy medium from the expensive Grove and Ivy but a safe-haven from horrible living situations which examples will remain nameless. She told me that some renters are unsure of some aspects of paying rent along with other amenities said renter will have to pay. For example, when renting a person doesn't typically think about paying for trash pick up, mowing the lawn or even if the snow will need plowed or driveways salted. Schumacher then states that her husband takes care of the lawn as well as salting and plowing the individual driveways of her renters.
